Our Garden Gnome

My youngest daughter N. has been begging for one. The other day I was at the garden store and saw that the Gnomes were 75% off, that's a good sale and there was no way I was going to pay the €15 full price for one of these guys. They really don't do much for me, but to please my child, I carefully chose the less chipped sale Gnome. He now lives in our strawberry patch, although I've noticed N. carrying him around the yard when she plays, but he usually ends up back with the future berries.

There is a group in France called the
FLNJ, the National Free the Garden Gnome movement. These guys go around stealing garden Gnomes. See a photo of freed Gnomes here. Also present are pranksters that steal a gnome and take him on a trip, take it's photo in front of famous landmarks, and sometimes return him completed with wife and children. Our back yard is pretty inaccessible to gnome thieves, so I doubt our Gnome will live any great adventures other than the ones N. has in store for him.

Just for fun, if you have one of these in your yard, send me his photo, I'll do a collage with them.

Note: N. took this photo

I've heard of the FLNJ! The gnomes are pretty big here. We don't have any, but they sell them all over the place!

Didn't this happen in the movie, Amelie? The gnome traveled around the world and sent photos to Amelie's father. Cute.

Your little guy looks cute though they don't normally do much for me either...
Is he waiting to be liberated?

Too funny about the gnome thieves! I have heard about the opposite type of pranksters...the kind that actually give you pink flamigos- whether you want them or not! :)

And I loved your last post...I think after biking all those hills, I'd want to "make the nap" too!

We don't have any gnomes. I had a lovely big toad in Andorra but someone freed him and he's off roaming the world....maybe he's pulling gnome carts. If you see him, send him home, please.
Toads are so much better than frogs!

Oh how I love the garden gnomes, and oh how I wish I had a photo of one to send you...perhaps this will finally get my OH to cave and let me get one?!

So adorable! I love how the pranksters at FLNJ put the gnomes in such unexpected places. Never were there more well-traveled gnomes than in France.

I've been looking for a gnome for my garden--just one though, which would peek out from behind a plant or fence. Visitors to my garden wouldn't see him at once, but there he would be as a little surprise. I love the fact that yours is a very positive gnome with his thumb up giving us the "O.K." sign.

Love this little guy! I'll post a pic on my blog of my cheap and ugly gnomes I found on sale at the Tractor Supply store here. ( and you can copy it) They would think they were big time if they could be in France on a collage! I have gone private so I will need to send you an invite. I lost your email addy. Could you email me? I'd like you to be a reader. I really enjoy your blog. :)
