other side of the mountain

DSCN1608

the trail

DSCN1619

We're back and full of new oxygen. The girls did pretty good on the trails, we only had to push them on the climbing part. No one complained coming back down. The largest wild animal we saw was a marmot. Mostly, we heard it's strange eagle-like cry, warning of our noisy arrival in it's prairies. The lack of visible wildlife in the French alpes always strikes me as odd when I compare them to my memories of American national parks chock full of deer, bears, birds of prey, etc...But the Alpes are beautiful, one of my favorite places to be on this earth.

So lovely. It looks like something out of a myth. Did you meet any dragons or knights errant?

Did you camp along the way? Looks like you were above the treet line.

There's nothing like the mountains for recharging your batteries and clearing out your lungs, and those are some of the loveliest you're showing us. As are the three beauties in the photo :-).

Welcome back.

What beautiful photos! Enjoy hiking with your girls while you can -- later it may not be their idea of a vacation!

That makes me really miss our Monday walks in Andorra... I love the mountains, too. It is REALLY flat here in the Vendee!
Glad you all enjoyed it!

Geez-Louize, Meridith! The photos are incredible! And, quite frankly, I'd rather hike where I am sure NOT to run into too much wildlife!!!

Gorgeous view!

I am thinking that that stone house along the road should be mine. Can you imagine having your coffee on that deck!!

So beautiful and yes, different than US mountains.

I echo what Beck said...I literally looked at these pictures and gasped...they took my breath away. I can almost feel the fresh mountain air.
(The last one is so very sweet, too.)

Mmmm. I love the Alps too! We just returned from a holiday there as well. Praz sur Arly. Where were you?
The ride up the side of Mount Blanc was fabulous and the snow was falling when we reached the top! What a treat in August!

Lovely! And surprising about the lack of wildlife.

Besides a few birds, I only remember marmots in the Alps too. But beautiful scenery. But, oh, those refuges-very primitive.
