Our mailbox contained another love letter for Nina this morning.
To all the 7 year old boys out there: She could care less.
She has definitely entered the latent phase, where playing with girls is a much better option than all those rough boys in her grade. Every Monday I volunteer at her school, accompanying her 2cnd grade class to the swimming pool. I help the girls get into their suits and put on those tight rubber bonnets that are required in French "piscines". The rubber hats keep the hair out of the pool, but are hard for 7 year olds to put on by themselves...hence the need for Moms to help. When all the girls are ready, they join the boys poolside for the start of the lesson.
Last week as the girls entered the pool, all the 7 year old boys started shouting: Nina, Nina, Nina...Unphased, Nina looked up at me and said..."Mom, don't listen to them. I don't, I just ignore them." Which is what she did without a blink as she casually took her place by the pool. I am thinking that Nina has second grade all figured out.

Ha -- she's so funny! What a confident little lady -- she knows what she's doing, huh? She doesn't have time to mess with the boys, she's got better things to do, n'est-ce pas?! ;-)
Yuck, boys! She sounds like she has got it all figured out.
I love her savoir-faire LOL.
Why the rubber bonnets? The stretchy ones made out of swimsuit material are so much easier to put on. (Israeli pools require them too.)
I think you're right! Knowing when to ignore unwanted attentions is very mature!
She is enviably composed and self-confident, I'm so impressed.
My Girl is already very aware of boys - but it's a disdainful awareness, so we're all good.
Sounds like your little girl knows herself very well.
Ah, that her actions would stay the same. I was the same at her age-didn't get the whole boy thing. Of course by high school, things had dramatically changed.
Never mind 2nd grade...I think Nina has life figured out! lol What a mature, confident little girl you've got there.
Now if she can just keep that attitude for a long, long time...
second grade? man she's got MEN figured out! Good for her.
Go Nina!
aahh...all the rules at the French swimming pools! ;)
And what is it about 2nd grade boys these days? When Ilsa was in 2nd grade (CE1, right?), a little boy had a crush on her and kept asking her out to a restaurant with him! What's up with that? He gave her lots of little presents too.
Wow, I wish I had her cool demeanor in 2nd grade...actually, I wish I had it now! ;)
My girls are home schooled, but they socialize in both our home school group and church, for example. But everyone seems completely unaware of the opposite gender at this point.
Except she and I both agree...Troy from High School Musical is pretty cute! ;)
She sounds like a marvelous little girl. Very self assured and confident.
She has it all figured out, doesn't she~you must have had a smile a mile long on your face!
Good for her!
I envy her self-assurance.
You must be beaming with pride! Too cute.
